Salt Lake City based Mooney Controls was founded in 1984 by Dick Mooney, a mechanical engineer with over 25 years experience in industrial controls and the natural gas industry. The Flowgrid® Regulator he developed is a patented, pilot-operated pressure regulating valve for both gases and liquids, and is now known for its unparalleled high performance, ease of maintenance, low minimum differential, reliability and versatility. The Flowgrid® is now available in sizes 1" through 12" with over 100 different end connection options.

In 1990 Mooney Controls developed and patented the Series 20 Pilot Regulator for accurate pressure control of the Flowgrid® and other pilot-operated regulators. Its removable body-insert, which contains the inner valve assembly, is now an industry standard for performance and ease of maintenance.

In 1998 Mooney Controls became part of the Dresser, Inc. family of companies. It is now part of the Flow Control Division. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Dresser, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of highly engineered equipment and services sold primarily to customers in the flow control, measurement systems, and power systems segments of the energy industry.

In 2000 Dresser Mooney Controls introduced another innovation; the FlowMax® Regulator. The FlowMax is a pilot-operated regulator that offer bubble tight shut-off at all pressure drops and full capacity even at very low pressure differentials. The complete line is now available in 2", 3", 4" and 6" sizes.
